Joyce Hurd
I have been a member of The Art Group in Strathroy since 1979.
I started drawing as a young child as it was a wonderful way to pass the time of day. As long as I had a pencil and a piece of paper or a box of crayons, I was a happy child.
I began using watercolours in 1979 when I joined the Strathroy Art Group. Marilyn Howe was our instructor at the time and she got me hooked on the medium. I have tried oils and acrylics but always go back to watercolours. I enjoy the challenge that watercolours bring and when a painting starts to work for me it seems to take on a life of its own. That is the magic that seems to keep me tied to the medium. I have taken many courses over the years with different local artists such as Blake Hughes plus several classes through Fanshawe College.
I enjoy painting architecture and have done several home portraits. I am presently doing small paintings as inserts for greeting cards. They are a gift and card in one as the original piece of art can be framed.
