I have been an avid outdoorsman for most of my life, and it is here that I find inspiration for my creative activities. A number of years ago, over a long cold winter, I began to draw and sketch, primarily in black and white using graphite, charcoal, pen and ink and mixed media. I occasionally added colour to enhance the image and provide interesting highlights. I like to show outdoor scenes or wild animals in their natural habitat, as well as buildings, ships and landscapes.
More recently, I’ve been inspired to delve into another creative pursuit. I have always sharpened our household knives and axes and, over the past year, spent many hours cleaning, reprofiling and polishing old axes, bringing them to a mirror finish, and refurbishing the handles. I have also enjoyed creating knives in a variety of styles, from old worn-out flat files and circular saw blades, and making wooden handles for them. A natural extension to this became making leather covers for the axes and knives, some with scenes and images of the outdoors. I enjoy the leatherwork, and am interested in creating custom leather covers for other people’s knives and axes.
