I started sketching as a child but life got busy. As I grew older I gave myself moments to explore this and many interests and still manage to have a full calendar of unfinished projects.
I love creating the kind of pictures to capture what I haven't been able to in a photograph. I'd love to blame the camera but truthfully can't . I sketched my children from about twelve different photos to get them together and touching each other as a link. I did one of my parents but Mom requested new glasses, a fresh duo and another dress. Just like a makeover and she was pleased.
It was convenient to travel or just waiting with my sketch pad, pencils and references. As long as I have a place to sit and if I'm lucky, a coffee, I can be anywhere.
Lately, say for the last ten years, I've put more colour in my work. I get a kick out of how different a picture will feel to me if it's painted with splashes of watercolour or more defined in acrylic or oils to blend.
I'm still learning and making occasional messes with a room of inspiration with pieces done by grandchildren. I like to think I'm teaching them appreciation of art and fun along the way - or - I continue to enjoy life through new eyes.
So here's to time well spent messing around.
